How to choose a clear aligner dentist in Pakistan
Clear aligners are only as good as the dentist who plans and supervises them. The plastic trays carry out the plan, but it is your dentist who examines you, decides whether aligners are right, approves every stage and spots problems early. So choosing a clear aligner dentist in Pakistan deserves as much thought as choosing the aligners themselves. Here is what to look for.
Why the dentist matters more than the brand
Every case is different. Two people with similar-looking crowding can need very different plans because of their gums, roots, bite or jaw. A licensed dentist or orthodontist is trained to see those differences and to say no when aligners are not the right tool. At Alignova, we only work through licensed dentists for this reason: we plan and manufacture the aligners, but the dentist examines, prescribes and supervises.
What a proper assessment includes
Your first appointment should be a real examination, not just a sales conversation. Expect:
- A check of your teeth, gums and existing fillings or crowns.
- An assessment of your bite: how your upper and lower teeth meet.
- X-rays where needed, to check roots and bone.
- Photos and a digital scan or impressions.
- A discussion of what you want to change and whether that is realistic.
If any decay or gum problem is found, it should be treated before teeth are moved. Our guide to your first aligner appointment covers this in more detail.
Questions to ask a clear aligner dentist in Pakistan
About experience
- How often do you treat cases like mine with aligners?
- Do you also offer braces, so you can recommend whichever is better for me?
- Who reviews the treatment plan before it is approved?
About the plan
- Can I see the 3D plan before treatment starts?
- Will I need attachments or IPR (gentle polishing between some teeth), and why?
- What are the realistic limits of the result?
About follow-up
- How often will you check my progress?
- Is remote monitoring available between visits?
- What happens if a tooth does not move as planned?
About the cost
- What exactly does the quote include? Refinements? Retainers? Replacement aligners?
- Do you offer installments, and on what terms?
Signs of a careful dentist
- They examine before they quote. A final price without an examination is a guess.
- They talk about limits. A dentist who explains what aligners cannot do for you is being honest.
- They show you the plan. You should be able to see how your teeth are planned to move.
- They plan for retention. Retainers should be discussed at the start, not as an afterthought.
- They have a follow-up system. Regular check-ups, and ideally a way to review progress between visits.
Warning signs
- Pressure to sign up on the same day, or "today only" offers.
- No X-rays or gum check, even when you have obvious dental problems.
- Promises of a guaranteed result.
- Vague answers about what happens if you need extra aligners.
- No mention of retainers.
We cover the cost side of this in cheap clear aligners: what to check before you buy.
Monitoring between visits
Busy schedules, long commutes in cities like Karachi and Lahore, and travel all make it harder to attend every appointment. Remote monitoring helps. With the Alignova patient app, given to you by your dentist, you log daily wear and send three photos in fixed poses at every aligner change. Your dentist reviews the photo series and can call you in if something needs attention. AI-assisted photo analysis is in development and not yet live. Read more about aligner monitoring.
Ask how the aligners are made
Your dentist chooses the laboratory or system that makes your aligners. It is reasonable to ask who designs the 3D plan, whether it is reviewed by an orthodontist, and whether the dentist approves it before anything is produced. With Alignova, the dentist submits scans or impressions through our doctor portal, reviews an orthodontist-reviewed 3D setup, requests any revisions and approves it online. Only then are the aligners 3D printed, thermoformed, trimmed, checked and packed in sequence for the clinic. A dentist who can explain this process clearly is usually one who is closely involved in your plan.
Practical factors
Convenience matters more than people expect. You will visit the clinic several times, so consider:
- Distance from home or work, and parking.
- Appointment availability in the evenings or at weekends.
- How easy it is to reach the clinic with a question or a lost aligner.
Finding a partner dentist
Alignova works with licensed partner dentists across Pakistan. You can see the cities we cover on our locations page. The easiest way to start is the free online smile check: a partner dentist near you will contact you to arrange an assessment. You can also read about clear aligners in Islamabad and other cities.
Frequently asked questions
Should I see a general dentist or an orthodontist for aligners?
Both can provide aligner treatment if they are trained and licensed. What matters is a thorough examination and a dentist who is open about whether your case suits aligners.
Is it normal to need X-rays before aligners?
Yes, in many cases. X-rays show the roots and bone, which cannot be seen in a photo or scan.
Can I get aligners without visiting a dentist?
Alignova aligners are only supplied to licensed dentists, who examine and supervise every patient. Moving teeth without an examination is not recommended.
Clear aligners are a prescription treatment. Whether they suit you is decided by a licensed dentist or orthodontist after an examination.
