Clear aligner treatment for crooked teeth, gaps and bite problems
You do not need to know the name of your problem to start. Here is what clear aligners can do for the most common reasons people want straighter teeth, and when a different orthodontic treatment may be better.
Take the Smile Check →Crooked and crowded teeth
Crowding happens when there is not enough space for teeth to line up. Aligners can rotate, tip and move teeth into line, often with a little space created between teeth by gentle polishing (IPR) or by expanding the arch. Crowded teeth treatment with aligners is one of the most common cases we make.
Gaps between teeth
Gaps, including a gap between the front teeth, are often well suited to aligners. Teeth are moved together in stages; if a tooth is missing, a temporary tooth-coloured pontic can fill the space during treatment.
Overbite
A deep overbite, where the upper front teeth cover too much of the lower teeth, can often be improved with aligners, sometimes using built-in bite ramps that help open the bite.
Underbite and crossbite
When an underbite or crossbite comes from tooth position, aligners with elastics can often correct it. When it comes from the jaw bones themselves, other treatment may be needed. Your dentist will tell you which applies to you.
Open bite
An open bite, where front teeth do not meet, can sometimes be treated with aligners. Habits such as tongue thrusting need attention too, so your dentist will assess the cause.
Teeth that moved after braces
If your teeth have moved since braces because retainers were not worn, aligners are often a simple way to bring them back, followed by retainers to keep them there.
When aligners may not be the right choice
Severe skeletal discrepancies, some impacted teeth and certain complex cases may need fixed braces, surgery or a combined approach. An honest assessment is the first step of every Alignova treatment. Clear aligners are a prescription treatment. Whether they suit you, and what your treatment involves, is decided by a licensed dentist or orthodontist after an examination.
