How to choose a clear aligner lab in Pakistan

For a dentist offering aligners, the lab is not just a supplier. It shapes the treatment plan you approve, the aligners your patients wear and the support you get when a case does not go to plan. Choosing a clear aligner lab in Pakistan deserves the same care as choosing any other clinical partner. This guide sets out what to ask, what to look at and which warning signs to take seriously.

Start with treatment planning

The 3D setup is where most of the clinical value lies. Ask any lab:

  • Who prepares the setups? Trained technicians using proper orthodontic planning software.
  • Who reviews them? An orthodontist should check setups for biomechanical sense before they reach you.
  • How is staging decided? Movements should be broken into realistic steps, not rushed.
  • How are attachments and IPR planned? You should receive clear attachment positions and a staged IPR chart showing where and when reduction is planned.

At Alignova, every case receives an orthodontist-reviewed 3D setup, staged with attachments and IPR, which the treating dentist reviews, revises and approves online.

Insist on doctor approval

A responsible lab never manufactures aligners without the treating dentist's explicit approval of the plan. You should be able to request revisions as many times as the case needs and see the updated setup each time. If a lab wants to skip this step to save time, look elsewhere. Clinical control should stay with you.

Ask about materials and manufacturing

Aligner material

Ask what material is used and why. Alignova uses a tri-layer material: a hard clear outer shell, an elastic core and a smooth inner shell, designed for gentle, consistent force, with a stain-resistant outer surface.

Manufacturing process

Ask how models are produced, how aligners are formed and how they are finished. At Alignova, models are 3D printed, aligners are thermoformed, trimmed along the gum line, checked and packaged in sequence.

Quality checks

Ask what checks are done before shipping and what happens if an aligner is faulty.

Check the range of auxiliaries

Real cases need more than plain trays. A capable lab should be able to design in:

  • Attachments for rotation, extrusion and root control
  • Bite ramps
  • Elastic cutouts and precision hooks
  • Pontics for missing teeth or spaces held for restorations
  • Staged IPR planning
  • Retainers at the end of treatment

For a closer look at one of these, see our guide to aligner attachments.

Look at the doctor experience

Day to day, much of your experience with a lab comes down to software and communication. Look for:

  • A portal where you can submit cases, upload STL files and photos, and see status at a glance.
  • Online plan review and approval.
  • Messaging attached to each case, so conversations do not get lost.
  • Clear invoices and payment history in PKR.

Alignova's doctor portal at alignova.cloud provides a case dashboard, case submission, 3D plan review and approval, case messaging and invoices with payment history. Read more about the clear aligner lab and how it works.

Support during treatment

A lab's job does not end at shipping. Ask how it supports refinements, how it helps when tracking is off and what tools it offers for monitoring. Alignova cases can use the patient app, which tracks daily wear and asks patients for three photos in fixed poses at every aligner change for the dentist to review. AI-assisted photo analysis is in development and not yet live. See aligner monitoring.

Why a local lab can help

Working with a lab inside Pakistan can make practical things easier: shipping stays in the country, communication happens in your time zone and billing is in PKR. Local labs can also offer branded or private-label packaging so your clinic's identity is on the box. Location is not a substitute for quality, though. Judge every lab, local or overseas, on planning, control, materials and support.

Questions to ask on a first call

  1. Who prepares and who reviews the 3D setups?
  2. Can I request revisions, and how do I see the updated plan?
  3. Is anything manufactured before I approve online?
  4. Which scan formats and impression types do you accept?
  5. What material do you use, and how are the aligners trimmed and checked?
  6. Which auxiliaries can be designed into the plan?
  7. How do refinements and replacement aligners work?
  8. How do I communicate with the lab about a specific case?
  9. Can packaging carry my clinic's branding?

Clear, direct answers to these questions tell you a lot about how the lab will work with you once cases are running.

Warning signs

  • Plans sent for approval without orthodontic review.
  • No staged IPR chart or unclear attachment design.
  • Pressure to approve quickly or limits on revisions.
  • Selling aligners directly to patients without a dentist's examination.
  • Promises of guaranteed results.

Frequently asked questions

Should I trial a lab with one case first?

Many dentists do. Starting with a straightforward case lets you judge the setup quality, communication and fit before committing more cases.

Does Alignova sell aligners to patients directly?

No. Alignova supplies licensed dentists and orthodontists, who examine, prescribe and supervise. Patients can take the free online smile check and are then contacted by a partner dentist.

Can I send physical impressions?

Yes. Alignova accepts STL scans from common intraoral scanners and physical impressions. See our guide to preparing scans and impressions.

Can Alignova supply clinics outside the major cities?

Aligners are shipped to the clinic. Contact the team through the partner page to discuss your location.
