The clear aligner treatment process, step by step
Here is what happens from your first appointment to your final smile.
1. Consultation
Your dentist examines your teeth, gums and bite, may take X-rays, and discusses what you want to change.
2. Clear aligner scan
A digital intraoral scan (or impressions) records the exact shape of your teeth. It takes a few minutes and is comfortable.
3. Digital orthodontic treatment planning
The scan becomes a 3D model, and the movement of each tooth is planned stage by stage. Your dentist reviews and approves the plan, and you can see it before anything is made.
4. Fitting
Your dentist fits your first aligners, places any attachments and explains how to wear and clean them.
5. Wearing and monitoring
You wear each aligner about 20 to 22 hours a day and switch on schedule. Check-ups, and with Alignova, progress photos in the patient app, keep treatment on track. See aligner monitoring.
6. Refinements
Some cases need a few extra aligners at the end to perfect the result.
7. After treatment: retainers
Retainers keep your teeth where they are. Most people wear them at night long term.

Clear aligners are a prescription treatment. Whether they suit you is decided by a licensed dentist or orthodontist after an examination.
