How long do clear aligners take?

There is no single answer: treatment length depends on how far your teeth need to move and how consistently you wear your aligners.

What decides the length

  • The amount and type of movement needed
  • The number of aligner stages in your plan
  • Whether refinements are needed
  • How many hours a day you wear the aligners

Keeping on schedule

Wear aligners about 20 to 22 hours a day, change them on time and attend check-ups. Missing wear time is the most common reason treatment takes longer.

Getting your estimate

Your dentist gives you an estimate once your 3D plan is ready, because the plan shows exactly how many stages you need.

Clear aligners are a prescription treatment. Whether they suit you is decided by a licensed dentist or orthodontist after an examination.
